NATIONAL COSRA DONATE TO PEDU REGIONAL MAJOR SEMINARY

By Kwadwo B. Donkor

The Catholic Organization for Social and Religious Advancement (COSRA) has presented five bags of rice, two cartons of frytol and a cash of GHC500 to the St Peter’s Major Regional Seminary at Pedu in the Central Region.

COSRA is an indigenous youth group of the Catholic Church formed some 40 years ago in Accra. Currently, it has more than 100 branches countrywide with over 1000 membership. It was formed to bridge the gap between the young and the old.

The presentation formed part of the organization’s biennial visit to the seminary which also coincided with its year long 40th anniversary celebration.

Making the presentation, National Vice President of COSRA, Joseph Skuggen, explained that as society whose objective was to direct the youth of the church along the Christian way of life and also to educate them to become good Catholics, it made a point to visit the major seminary every two years to interact with the would-be priests.

Aside the material and at times, the financial support that it extended to the seminary to support the formation of the priests, he said the visit was also to sell the society to the seminarians and solicit their support for its activities at the parish and diocesan levels.

Mr. Skuggen explained that one of the challenges facing the society was the uncooperativeness of some priests in some of the parishes and was hopeful that through such interactions, the seminarians would soon be ordained, would get to know more about the organization and its objective and help it to bring the youth of the together and make them more active in parish works.

The Vice Rector of the seminary, Very Rev. Fr. Matthew Asiedu-Peprah who received the items on behalf of the seminary, expressed his gratitude to the organization.

He was particularly happy COSRA has over the years kept faith with this ‘biennial tradition’ visit to the seminary. He reminded them of their role as a laity in the formation of priests and encouraged to constantly interact with them and assist them in their preparation toward the priestly vocation.

Very Rev. Fr. Asiedu-Peprah advised the seminarians not to be discriminatory but encourage the formation of societies that bring the youth together for the good of the church.

“I believe it is our sacred obligation to support the formation the societies in the church,” he stressed.
